Compatability Problems IE 11  en

Hi All,

I have major issues with my website and Internet Explorer 11, however everything works fine on Chrome, Firefox etc.

The issues started when in IE 8 my homepage did not display correctly, there was a huge space and the outer pictures were out of place. All other pages displayed correctly though.  On my company laptop we were forced by admin to upgrade to IE11, after this upgrade only the local version of my website displayed correctly after being prompted by IE11 to allow Active X. On the published version I did not even get this message and the homepage went back to looking misaligned, along with all photo galleries no longer displaying on my other pages.

I thought at first this was just because my admin had blocked all Active X, but when I upgraded my home machine to IE11 I had exactly the same problem. Now no matter what security settings I change in IE11, it will not display my website correctly.  Please take a look for yourselves if you have IE 11.

PS I'm using Website X5 Evolution 12.

Appreciate any help.

Jamie

Hello Jamie,

I tested zour website with Internet Explorer 11 and Edge and in both it was displayed correctly. Try to reset all the settings to default in IE 11 and then proceed to test it again.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio,

Many thanks for your reply. I have reset the settings hundreds of times but still end up with the same result.  Can you confirm which other browser you compared my site to?  Weirdly enough I have also tested it in Edge and it displays perfectly, I literally just have the problem in IE11 on 2 different machines.

Do you have any specific settings for your Active X filters in IE 11?

Thanks again,

Jamie

Hi again Claudio,

I think I have found the problem. In IE11 under the privacy tab there is an option "Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate Browsing starts". I disabled this which didn't make any difference, however when I re-enabled it everything seemed to work correctly! I was a bit doubtful so I tried it on my work laptop, and again it solved the problem.

Very strange but I suppose at the end of the day I now know my website displays correctlty on all platforms so I'm more than happy.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Jamie

Okay so my last post was just a fluke...I'm not sure why that solved the problem, although it only solved it briefly.

I have now found the actual problem. Whilst in the building phase of my website I am hosting it on my own server using homeserver.com. Microsoft has added homeserver.com to their compatibility list and therefore when "Use Microsoft Compatibility List" is selected under "Compatibility View Settings", the website is distorted.

On my new installation of IE11 on my home machine I was able to deselect this option, restart IE and everything is perfect. However using my work laptop my administrator does not allow to deselect "Use Microsoft Compatibility List", so therefore my website always displays incorrectly. I got around this by editing my locally stored copy of iecompatdata.xml located in \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IECompatData (I tried deleting it but it just reappears). After deleting the homeserver.com line within the XML, everything is working perfectly again.

I thought I would just update this here in case anyone else faces the same issue...although highly unlikely as I'm sure most people will not be using homeserver.com and most will be able to deselect "Use Microsoft Compatibility List"!

Thanks,

Jamie
