Hello guys - need your help and advice please.

I am building a website for a client - how can I send the "under construction" site to them for their approval or revisions during the build process before it is published.

This is something that is essential for me.

I am using website x5 version 12 professional.

Thank you

Shaun

I have had to do this many times and have found the easiest way is to put it in a subdirectory of the host site.

eg http://www.website.com/new

It will not be visible to anyone except your client who knows where to find it because you send them a link.

Thank you for your reply Esach - I am very new to all of this....my apologies.

How do I go about this - do I do it from within X5 or via my hosting etc.

Sorry to be a pain but right now....."Idiot proof advice" is good!

This is a whole new and confusing world to me.

Whilst I assume you could do this from within WebsiteX5 (I have never tried), I find it easier to use filezilla (free), navigate to the public html directory of the host, right click and create "new" directory, then copy the files to the new directory.

You will need to go to step 5 and export website to disk (instead of upload website to internet) and then upload those files.

BTW this is only necessary if the website is an update, if it's a new website you can just upload the site to the public html directory - nobody except you and your client know it exists in this case, so you can keep improving and showing your client until you are both happy, then tell google, bing, etc that it exists.

Have fun!!

You are a hero Esahc - thank you.

I just wish Incomedia had incorporated something within the program to make this easier - maybe they have and we don't know about it - maybe they will tell us!

I appreciate your help and patience and it gets me out of the current hole I am in!

Enjoy.

I once had a client who wanted to see 3 different versions (themes) and I create new1, new2 and new3 so he could choose. Sadly he chose new1 which meant I wasted 2/3 of my time.

When your temporary site is up I would be happy to offer any advise or assistance for you to ignore if you post the link :-)
