I do not believe the preview browser supports Flash, but once loaded to the web it should work.

Previous browser was Firefox, same as current browser.  Also using windows 10.  (No changes except now using Evolution 13 instead of 12.)

Previously I was using Evolution 12, created a single web page with text and a couple of words in the text linked to mp4 videos.  Worked fine.

Currently using Evolution 13 (for the first time).  Did the same thing as with Evolution 12, created a single web page with text and a couple of words in the text linked to mp4 videos.  When I click on a link, I get the message "Adobe flash player needs your permission to run".  Note attachment.  

The links are to mp4 videos, not pdf files.

Checked Windows 10 Settings and video player is defaulted to movies & TV.

Could this be a new issue with linking Flash to X13?  So that previw will work for mp4 videos?

Will upload to web and test later, but would really like a preview before uploading.

Are you trying to play it through the preview browser?

If so, export the site to disk, then open in firefox.

But it is still possible this movie will play from the web even though it won't play locally.

Hello Claudio, this is what I have done with no sucess:

1. Using Evolution 13, ran as administrator, selected the web page file, etc. Clicked PREVIEW, page window popped, clicked text with link to mp4, and then I got the "Adobe Flash Player needs your permission to run" error.

2. Checked that I had the current version of Shockwave Flash (23.0 r0)

3. Eventhoug this may not be applicable to E 13's PREVIEW window, I checked that the Flash Plug-in setting in Firefox  was ALWAYS ACTIVE, that Windows 10 EDGE (not using but part of W10) settings for Flash were "ON", changed W 10 default from Video Player from "Movies & TV" default to Windows Media Player.

4. Exported page created in E 13 and tried to import with E 12.  Of course this failed as expected.

5. Created a test page with video links using E 12, same format as is failing with E 13.  PREVIEWed the page, clicked the mp4 video links, and the two movies played.

Is there a need to install a second FLASH app for E 13?  Has Adobe FLASH changed its installaton with Evolution 13 or vice versa?

Any more suggestion to get Evolutions 13 PREVIEW to play linked mp4 movies would be appreciated.

Finally set up my server directories for this web page.  Uploaded it using Evolution 13 ftp and page worked fine.  Videos played when the text was clicked.

Thanks for the comment.  Only need to figure out why E 13 Preview has the Flash issue concerning permission.

I believe the preview browser is based on Chrome (I am hopeful someone will correct me if I am wrong), and Chrome actively discourages Flash content. I do not believe it has been possible to display flash content in preview for some time.

Further to TB’s problem with Adobe Flash Player requiring permission when attempt to view his website in the preview facility, I too have the same problem.  Like TB, I have used ‘flash objects’ in the church website I maintain for some time and had no problem in Website X5 Professional 12.  Surely any piece of software must support at least the functionality of its predecessor and after the hype of the New Version it is very disappointing to have a valued function removed.

Esahc is wrong to say that “it has been possible to display flash content in preview for some time” as TB clearly states he as I have used it in V12.  Also to say that the Preview is based on Chrome may be the case but as Chrome says it does not support some plug-ins as they are include by website creators, if this is so then Incomedia/Website X5 must include a flash player plug-in.

I have done as Claudio suggests and started in Admin mode but to no avail. I trust after being a loyal user of Incomedia’s software Website X5 for over 10 years this problem will be corrected forthwith.

By the TB, you can view the flash functionality by using the ‘Preview website in another browser button’ but I agree you should not have to do this two stage preview!

I will look out for the update to correct this.

The preview browser is based on Chromium...  this is not identical to the Chrome browser.

Incomedia cannot include Flash as part of their WebSite X5 setup package as it is a proprietary software owned and licensed by Adobe.

Anyone wishing to install Flash in the WebSite X5 preview browser are free to do so.  There are many threads on the forum with detailed instructions on how to accomplish this.  The setup must be run directly within the preview browser itself.

It is immaterial if Flash was installed and operating correctly in a previous verison of WebSite X5.  Version 13 is a standalone program, and if any v13 user wishes to benefit from Flash support in the preview then they must install Flash in the version 13 preview.

There have been no changes in functionality in this regard between versions 12 and 13.  if any user is experiencing permissions problems (which is a local issue) then they should consult the following article:

However, installing Flash in the v13 preview should alleviate most, if not all, permissions issues in v13.

Esahc is absolutely right...  we should all be moving away from Flash as rapidly as possible, and onto HTML5.  Flash technology will soon be a thing of the past, for very sound reasons.

More than happy to use HTML5 and not Flash.

After construction my simple web page with links to mp4 videos, I merely selected PREVIEW, clicked on the mp4 video link, and then got the PERMISSIONS message.  I did not specifically point X5E13 to FLASH.

As I mentioned, I checked W10 settings, and it does not have FLASH as the default player, in fact, I don't have Flash or a flv player on my computer. (Attached snap to show no flv player on my window 10 system)

So to help another long time Incomedia customer, how do I get my mp4 videos to run under X5E13 HTML5 when in PREVIEW?

You can display a preview of the imported video/audio object, by selecting the Preview option.

Different players are used for playing the various video/audio file formats. If the browser supports the HTML5 video tag and the file's codec, then it will use WebSite X5 Media Player to display/play files in .MP4, .WEBM and .OGG formats. All other formats are handled as shown in the table:

To ensure maximum compatibility, you should use .MP4.

Please study the table in the helpfile carefully as it is crucial to understanding support for the various media files.

I have Flash installed in the preview browser within version 13 and can play MP4 files with no difficulty.

If you are unable to play MP4 files in the preview then either the codec is wrong, or Flash is not installed correctly in the preview browser.

The following link can be used to download and install Flash in the preview browser:

The link must be pasted in the preview browser address bar, as opposed to any other regular browser.  Please follow all prompts carefully, and deselect the optional software.

Thanks for your more detailed response.  There must be some change as I can run V12 and it plays the flash file but V13 doesn't.  Same computer, same OS, same file.

Accepting that Flash may be being phased out (I seem to remember this about 10 years ago) on the Chrome website it does say that website creators need to provide the facility to view flash, however if you are saying that Website X5 will no longer support flash content then I am very disappointed as there is a lot of legacy flash components.  I am using an application to create a page turning book (http://www.southharrowbaptistchurch.org.uk/the-messenger.php) and could now need to add to expense to find a new application to do this.  As I do the web maintenance for a charity and for free, additional costs makes it less worthwhile.

I have looked at your link and to say it is unclear (and I am not idiot or novice) is not an understatement.  I fully understand the flash control panel but how to access it from Website X5 preview browser is a mystery.

I will just have to use the alternative browser option in preview to check this page.

But completely different software...  WebSite X5 version 13 is a unique, standalone program which does not share components with version 12 in any way.

Fair enough, but personally I would put web security above cost considerations every time.  And I speak as a web developer.

If you re-read my post you'll see that I advocate that if you install Flash in the version 13 preview then you will very likely not need to tinker with the Flash settings at all.  I certainly didn't, and I received exactly the same 'permissions' message as yourself when using v13 for the first time...  until I installed Flash in the preview, like I have done with every other version of WebSite X5 previously.

Hello all, logged out of the admin account as noted above, logged into my user account, executed X5E13, and previewed one of my web pages that have mp4 videos.  The web paged displayed, the auto run music started, and when selected, the movie ran.  Great!  QED

Questions I have are (1) I am loosing any capabilities using FLASH rather that HTML5 and (2) whether or not Firefox V49 can really run HTML5 in the preview.  Did I do something wrong?

I believe most of us just need the tools to work when we purchase new versions. I prefer to use the current standards like HTML5, but don't want to get frustrated and spend time ferreting out the issues.

I also believe we understand that Incomedia can't install proprietary software in their product, but we would surely appreaciate guidence, simple and verified, that allows customers to install them.

Evolution 13 seems to be a good product, but as usual for most new products, there wil probably be bumps. This help center is a good way to navigate through them.

The audio and video function will work with flash and HTML5 and uses flash as fallback if HTML5 is not supported.

It will work so on all devices.
