Suggestion for a X5 PRO-e  en

When you have the PRO version one should think it should be possible to create a website with integrated e-shop for a client.
It IS possible - but the client will not be able to maintain his own products and prices.

The client will need the X5 software and the project. And then he should be able to handle the software? - no way.
I will suggest that the X5 could be set up for using php-files as now, OR connected to a database.

The products, prices and much of the setup for the shop, should then be in the database.
The client could then from a "dashboard" maintain products and shop-settings.
Import and export of products should be possible.
There is other things that could be enhanced regarding the e-commerce ( the payment structure ) - but this is the most important for a product called PRO.

I am sure that INCOMEDIA know this already, as the e-commerce have been an issue for a long time and in many posts.

It would be nice to know if actions has been taken already for the product-maintaining and if we can expect a proper solution in near future.

It would be a win/win if we users could have a product suited for the e-commerce future and INCOMEDIA would keep customers on the X5 platform.

So my suggestion is to make a first step by making it possible with a database solution for the e-commerce. ( or wharever solution INCOMEDIA has in mind )

As not many new things has come for a long time, we could hope the time has been invested in a better e-commerce :-)

Hey John,

Like you said... asked since long time, time is in yrs now !!! tongue-out

In 2 words you ask for a back-end interface for the customer of the e-commerce website to manage his products, price, stocks...

But the actual product is too complicate to do something

  • some parts are into the db, and some tables have no index to retrieve infos !!! So the DB is horrible !!!
  • some parts are into flat files on the website
  • and needs th GUI to update many things

I worked in it and you can check some results with my external plugin here

I know products can be handled from a desktop-interface - and I know that products can be in a database.

This is the most common for web-shops.

What I don't know is if it can be a matter of settings for PHP or database.

But it should be for INCOMEDIA to find a solution. Maybe the database could be an optional add-on.

Whatever - I think the PHP solution should stay for the small shops you build for yourself - And the database should be for the "real" shops where you make a solution for a client.

Incomedia WebSite X5 is really great when it comes to build “informative” pages. Interface is easy to learn and understand, your own code can be added with just a little effort.
People prefer buying stuff on Internet and that requires web pages with a strong e-commerce part. Sorry to say that, but Incomedia’s product cannot have much of use for Internet store owners.
We’ve been asking for improving/changing the e-shops piece. For years. The answers we are getting is “we forwarded your request to developers”. That’s it. And I sincerelly believe it's true. Pressing for more specific answers causes your question disappear.
Why keeping us in such state? We need little more information, we would like to know if the developers are, for example:
- working on other issues that need to be fixed and at this moment e-commerce is “put on the shelf”
- thinking about it, but the chance is slim that they will start working on it any time soon
- working on it, but it will take such and such amount of time to implement it
- getting ready to release it
- … or any other more specific information
For many WSX5 users, the e-shop part is an imprtant factor to make a decision whether to stay with this software or looking for another product.
So, thank you John S. for your suggestion. I hope we will finally get some more information from the Support Team regarding the e-commerce implementation changes.

I totally agree with John and Tom and suggest that if you need a professional Ecommerce for you or your customers, you should use Ecwid (https://www.ecwid.com/). It is highly professional and easily integrated into WebsiteX5 itself through the "html" object. Give it a try.

Eduardo,

we have paid a solution with an integrated e-commerce part, so normally we have not to pay more for other solution ! Incomedia's job is ti fix all e-commerce issues.

Just for reminding we paid "Update Protection" to fix and improve our solution..

But it's not true and not the case

I agree with you - but my intention with the post was not about the "Update Protection".

I think we all would benefit of a good e-commerce section, and I think we would all like to know from INCOMEDIA what their intentions is about bringing the e-commerce up to todays standards.

I have suggested a first small step to put the products in  a database.

I would like to know if something like this is in the pipeline.

Long time ago I asked to have a roadmap to inform customers of next features and big fixes  for the next 6 months or more ... nothingyell

Like said Tom, always: "we forwarded your request to developers”. The best Elisa's answer....

Also I asked to have an online bugtracker (for customers obviously) to follow issues and fiexes... nothingyell

So actually we have product with absolutely NO INFO from the editor about features and fixes....

Like a phantom product.

Yes - good idea with a roadmap.

At least they could inform registered customers via mail.

Without promising anything, they could inform us what is in the pipeline.

I posted similar as an idea nearly 2 years ago. https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/fr/post/183040
I'm afraid Incomedia leaves the shop part as one of the rather neglected bits... :-(
I've "lost" projects because of that moving to solutions like Shopify, what is a real shame.

I don't see why some really important things like that are not adressed.
Another example is the scary fact that passwords of users you create in X5 are stored (in the database or res/access.inc.php) in plain text. Not encrypted, not to mention using something like salt. This is a real security issue not being solved for a long time either...

Your post is similar. I wonder why there was no reaction to it???

I would like to know  if not other users have this need for being able to maintain products and some settings online ( dashboard or so).

I guess Inco wants to keep the nonDB possibility open. If they move the products into the DB they still have to maintain the x5cart.js file for the nonDB X5 users. Thats higher maintenace then...

The easiest way for developers is to remove the so-called "online store" from the program, which is good for nothing, and make an AJAX-application for the program, like Ecwid. Then only the code is added to the site, and all settings occur online.

I 10001% agree!

My company bought the X5 for the e-commerce part ONLY - and this part of the program needs updating the most.. and the amount of work necessary IS NOT something that could not be done in 2-3 weeks (with testing).

I do not care if the X5 PRO price goes up because of that - we just need a truly PROFESSIONAL software that we can make money with!

I'll start a series of e-commerce related updates - one update for an each "episode" - and we'll see the Incomedia's reaction.

Hopefully it would be adequate...

Good day everyone

I would like to start by letting you know that every suggestion such as these are always welcome and I also thank you for all the dedication in proposing new ways to improve the current state of the software.

This particular suggestion of moving the entire product logic to the Database could surely be helpful and I believe this has been proposed already in the past. The developers have been notified of this need and are well aware of the possibilities that such a change could unlock for the software.

That being said, I have to also confirm that although the issue has not found its way inside the software yet, the matter has not been forgotten and the Idea is still actively discussed by the team

Unfortunately, as of now there's no useful news on the matter, so I can only guarantee that, should there be any news on this matter specifically, it will surely be made public to the entire community

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we keep on working towards improving the software

Stefano

The price of 6 dollars is only if you buy all programs - but if you look at what is bundled it is worth the price.

In the bundle there is at least 6 pieces of software that makes it all worth.

Be aware that this  shopping cart is very good, but it is also for smaller business.

There is no digital goods available - and some other things.

The thing to cry over is, that X5 has most of the functionality you should need, but the lack of a databse makes it near useless.

And Stefano is right - it has been asked for in the past. Very very past.

Stefano,
I'm pretty sure that it has been "discussed by the them". For years, as I remember.
But can one of you (Support team) get from the Developers some more information? I have already asked for such in my other comment above:

Tom G.

Can we get it?

I agree with everything that has been said. I think that Incomedia will not introduce product administration by our clients for a long time. This would require a total change, I think, the control panel in WSX5. It is good that there is at least a possibility of small order administration via the mobile application, it relieves developers of watching over orders. As Tom said, the WSX5 is very good for websites only and relatively stable if we compare it with different CMS, for example. However, there are several things to improve about online shops, and I'm not just talking about product access to administration for clients. That's why I'm seriously wondering whether to buy another Update Protection.

thanks Henrik ,

it's a real proof that Incomedia does not listen their customers and update the software regarding their wishes.
If this  cannot be done in 5 yrs, so why wait anymore...

They work just for money....

Now it should soon be revealed if the X5 is following the market-demands, regarding the shopping part - or if it is still a do-it-yourself shop for small business/non-PRO's.

E-commerce updates are not hard to do - but they don't sell!

I'm work in marketing and I get that.

Many of the X5 users do not need e-commerce.

But Incomeda must know that X5 is one of the very few WYSIWYG platforms which could be used for building a simpler e-shops. This fact alone Incomedia's marketing could use to gain more users and become #1 software in this "making an small e-shops" niche...

To be able to accomplish this - and to keep their "advanced" current users (like me) - e-commerce updates are a necessity!

The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that the number of updates is relatively small - 1-2 week of work will be sufficient to cover (at least) 90% of the requested updates...

Let's hope that Incomedia would do just that...
