Lost Project Files

website www.focalview.co.uk

I have EVO the latest version

I have been working on my website and have been uploading as per usual.

I have just opened the software again to update and find that there are no projects in the Start window. I don't know where these are stored on my system so I try to import after a search only to find that the only project files found are three years old and not the current versions.

Where are the Project files stored by default?

I set the Save feature to Backup every upload but it would seem that all the files have been dumped as I cant find them anywhere. Has anyone else had such a problem? If so I would like know how you dealt with it. I appreciate you will have your own system but there may be a generic solution.

If I have really lost these, I will have to rebuild the site from scratch which I can do but here is the question I really need answered:

Can I download a copy of all the files on my server that currently make up the complete and up to date website in the hope that EVO will find the rlevant information to bring back the projects? In other words, is all lost or can anyone think of a shortcut using the web files?

Hello Adrian

The easy answer first : NO - you cannot download the site from web, and then work with it in X5. This is not possible.

Where are the files?

I think the easiest way to find where your files is located, is to look for filenames on the server.

Then write down ( or copy ) some of the file names ( could be page names ).

Then on your PC make a full search for one of the file names. ( I suggest you NOT look for index.html )

When you ( hopefully ) find the filename then you can see where the files is located. The filename should probably be found in a preview folder and in an upload folder.

If you have made a iwzip, then you could look for *.iwzip. But this will only be a good idea if the iwzip is rather new.

When you find the project folder, then make a backup of this folder ( and subfolders ) before you do anything else.

Thank you John for your thoughtful reply.

I have searched and have found projects that were part of WX13 only and these are, of course, out of date so I looked in the Evolution folder and there is no sign of Evo projects. It is a mystery to me and I cant see where in the programme one is given the option as to where to save files. It looks to me as though they have simply vanished - well I probably deleted them somehow. Where would project files usually be stored by default?

I shall have to start again which is probably for the best in the long run.

Thank you again

Adrian

Adrian, you do not appear to be a licensed user. It is difficult to assist if we do not know what version you are using. Please login with your registered username and password or ask Incomedia to fix this anomoly.

The answer to where you will find your projects  is version dependent. For instance, by default you will find your project/s in your Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v13 - Evolution or Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v13 - Professional folder

We look forward to helping you.
