I cannot link my English and French websites  en

I have created both English and French versions of my website which I wish to link from flag images in the headers. I have gone into templates, clicked on the flags and entered the URLs. On the preview page, the introductory page of the website I wish to connect to appears together with the flag of the language I want to connect to but with no header or means of connecting to other pages. If I upload the sites to the internet, there is no connection to the other site at all. All that comes up is a blank page.

There are usually 2 projects, one project in English and the other project in French.

The different languages are in different directories, e.g.:

The English project in the main directory.

The French project in the subdirectory (e.g.: /fr).

The flags are linked to the URL, e.g.:

    English flags > https://my-website.com/

    French flag > https://my-website.com/fr/

And here are the instructions for multilingual websites, see
