Discount codes and vat  en

I have a discount code on my site  that gives 5% discount. So for example 20 items at £3.99 inc vat comes to £79.80. Vat is £13.30. 5% discount brings net price down to £75.81. However as the discount is applied to the whole price including the VAT this makes the VAT amount shown on the invoice incorrect. Is there a way to set up a coupon code so that the discount applies to the net product price and VAT is added afterwards which I believe is the correct way to do it.

Hello. I don't think it can be done now.
I agree with you. If the program applies a discount to the tax, then this is not correct.

You can try using this option. But this only turns off VAT.

Hello. I sent a notification about your question to the company employees, expect an answer from them here in the comments.

Hi Aleksej,

This is what I thought. The net price is the same whether you apply the discount before or after tax, the issue is that the VAT showing on the invoice is wrong and misleading. THis really needs to be sorted ASAP.

Thanks for your help.

Derek

Hello Derek

One quick question. The Coupon you have is configured to be a discount for that specific product or for the entire order?

If the discount is for the entire order, the VAT for each product won't change and this is so by official regulations we followed when developing this functionality.

If the discount is for the specific product, you're going to be seeing the VAT change too

Can you please provide further information on the matter as mentioned?

I remain available here

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

The discount is for the whole order. The issue is over the amount of VAT being displayed in the invoice. Whether you apply discount to individual products or as a whole the net amount that the customer pays is the same. It is just that the system is showing the wrong amount of VAT.

Example. 10 products @£4.00 incl vat = £40 less 5% discount = £38 vat = £6.33, the problem is that the invoice would show vat at £8.00 which is wrong and this is what you need to sort out.

10 products @ £3.333 ex vat = £33.33. ( £4.00 with vat)  less 5% discount = £31.67 + vat = £38. Vat = £6.33

I hope this makes sense.

Regards

Derek

(It > En)  ... maybe I didn't understand, but, waiting for the experts, ... some counting doesn't come back to me...
... if the VAT is 20% and the total with VAT is £40, the total VAT, without applying the discount, it cannot be £8 (!) that you brought back. ......or is it a program error...!?...

.

ciao

The programme is showing the incorrect VAT amount when a discount is applied and that is the problem

Hello Derek

I've performed this test for you, let me know if this looks right:

This was done with a product that costs 4USD each with a VAT of 20%

The data seems fine to me. Did you get a different result? Perhaps you can share this screen here with me?

Thank you

Stefano

x   Derek K.,  ...

Hi Stefano,

Always tricky when you have to round up. But I make the VAT 6.34

Gross 40 less 5% = 38.00 net vat = 31.66 vat = 6.34
