Email form - enquiries  en

Author: Laura H.

I cannot get the email enquiry form to work on my website.

It does send an automated email response to the enquirer saying 'will get back to you'.  But it doesn't send the enquiry from the enquirer to me by email, so I don't know I am getting queries.

I've tried to understand the help on this that states my web server must support PHP, but I don't really understand this, and can't sort it.  Does any one have any ideas, or steps to sort it out (in baby english please!!)?  Many thanks

Hello Laura,

We'll try and help you sort this out.

Can you start by giving us a link to your website?

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi, thank you so much.

my website is www.stauntonvalegundogs.co.uk  and the email form was on the Contact Us tab, but I have taken it off as it isn't working.

I admit I am not particularly computer savvy!  but I have got this far, so it seems a shame to not be able to use some of the great features.

Thank you again in advance.

No problem, Laura

Your site looks nice...  I like the dark background.

Can you visit the following link, please?

http://www.stauntonvalegundogs.co.uk/admin/login.php

This is the login portal to your WebSite X5 'online control panel'  -  the login details you need to enter are your Administrator username and password as defined in Step 4 Advanced Settings > Access Management...  if you have a look in Step 4 you should see what I'm referring to.

Once you are logged in please look to the top left of your screen...  you will see a link marked 'Test'...  click on it and you will find a selection of diagnostic tools to help you troubleshoot email problems.  They should be fairly self-explanatory, but if you need assistance give us a shout!  And there is further information in the WebSite X5 help file.  Press F1 whilst running the software to get context sensitive help on any topic.

Could you also please double-check what you have entered on the 'Send' tab of the Email Form Object itself in Step 3.  Just make absolutely sure that the email addresses are as they should be in the relevant fields, so we can rule out any errors as far as that's concerned.

If you don't understand any of what I've written so far, don't hesitate to ask any one of us for further clarification.

Let us know how you get on!

Best wishes,

Paul

Ok, I feel like I am making slight progress, as I wasn't even able to log into that screen before!  However, when I press the word 'test' in the left corner nothing happens.

It just stays on the same screen with that form showing, with the green PHP pass stuff at the top, and then the form with sender email address, user email address, subject.

I'm not really sure what to do now?

I have *** as the email address in the form as the User email address, and on the other side that is the Sender address?

As I say, the enquirer is getting a confirmation email to acknowledge the query, but I am not getting any email to tell me about the query.

Thanks

OK, that's good so far, Laura!

If you look at the 'Test' page you will see there is a drop-down menu entitled 'Email form script type'...  by selecting each option in turn you can send test messages to see which one works best/correctly on your own particular server.

Fill in the email address fields on the 'Test' page just as you would in your Email Form Object:

Sender (from): (email address of the sender)

User (to): (email address of the recipient)

Subject: (put anything you like here...  e.g. Test Message)

Body: (again, anything you like...  e.g. Test Message)

Then click the 'Submit' button to send the test email(s) to yourself...  try each script in turn and see which one(s) arrive as they should in your inbox.

Check any spam folder in your email program too, as sometimes PHP-generated mail can be wrongly classified as spam...  we'll cross that bridge when we come to it if you find it applies in your case.

Keep us posted!

PS: please note that for test purposes sender and user email addresses can be the same...  i.e. your own email address

Ok, did that.  Wasn't sure who was sender and who User, so I sent both to myself as sender *** and User *** and haven't received ANYTHING via email!!

OK, give it just a few more minutes...  some servers can be a little slow...

Can you confirm that you've sent three separate test messages using each script type in turn?  And nothing in any spam folder, either?

Thanks...

Good, at least your host isn't categorising the PHP-mail as spam.

At this point, Laura, it would be a good idea to contact your web host as it looks like you have a server side issue:

https://www.uk2.net/about-us/contact-uk2/

https://support.uk2.net/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

You can provide them with a link to this thread if you like  (https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/post/109952)

It seems that you have PHP enabled on your server, but it is possible that PHP-generated email is not permitted by your host.  Your server needs to support the PHP mail command:

http://help.websitex5.com/en/v11/evo/index.html?ins_form.htm

Don't worry about the technicalities of this...  just ask your host to comment on this thread, and advise whether or not WebSite X5 mail should work correctly on their servers given the operating requirements:

http://www.websitex5.com/en/system-requirements.html

PHP MAIL command must be active.

One thing that puzzles me is why the confirmation email is getting through but not the main message itself, but let's see what your webhost has to say.

Please let us know as soon as they have responded.

Many thanks,

Paul

Right, thanks.  I'm conversing with them now.  sloww......!

nearly there: their message -I understand. This is occuring because the server is attempting to deliver the messages to itself instead of to our main email system. I can adjust this for you, but I'll need you to verify the account.

Oh god, it was like drawing teeth!!  that problem solved, by them.... , but I think they have a whole lot more issues of their own! LOL

Anyway, at least it wasn't me.

Thank you so much for all your help.  Very much appreciated.

Just simply create your form by adding the field you need, then in the setting tab, add your email address. that is all

if you have a specific problem, open a new post and explain your problem.

if you need to know how to create a form, you need to read the user manual as well, go to your profile here at the top of the page and choose download, you have your program and the manual over there to download.

if this post is the correct answer, please mark this answer as correct answer.
