Problem registering for free webhosting at one.com  en

After updating to Ver 11, I tried to register with one.com using the EDC code. Filled out the forms and everything seemed OK but then received an email from One.com saying my details are invalid and I need to send them a scan of my Driving License or Passport to continue. Is this a phishing scam? All the information I gave them was true and valid. Surely the fact that I am using an EDC code from Incomedia proves who I am so why the need for the scans?

I am not happy about sending scans of these documents to people I don't know. After all, I am only wanting web hosting, what does it matter to them who I am? My account with yourselves (card details and email address) proves who I am so why ask for more details. It looks like I will have to get hosting elsewhere.

Your thoughts on this.

First contact them and see if you can resolve the issue without sending any document that you are not comfortable with.

If it did not go well and you were still looking for a different company, feel free to check out usx5host.com. I would be able to help you over there. usx5host is a part of www.nuluhost.com (special package for websitex5 users).

Thanks Anthony, Not having any progress with one.com. What an arrogant bunch they are. It seems they are a law unto themselves and unwilling to listen to anything I have to say. I will post again later giving more detail but suffice to say I am surprised Website X5 have partnered with such an company. Their customer service stinks. It seems they will use the most trivial of excuses to avoid their obligation to offer free hosting for 12 months. In effect, the offer of free hosting given by Website x5 is worthless in my case.

I would love to use your hosting but I was really looking for a UK company because that is the market I will initially be targeting. However, now that I think about it, perhaps it doesn't matter.

Thanks again
