Arthur, my experience is that the background parallax image works fine on responsive sites except where a high resolution image is used. If this is the case, then tablets, phones, etc have trouble dealing with the bandwidth requirements.

When I use these images, I resize the image to "a realistic" size eg 1200 or 1400px wide even though some monitors are larger than this. Even this small change compared to a native image width of 1920px makes a significant difference in download speed (let alone using an image perhaps off your phone which could be 4000-5000px wide.

You may like to explain (or provide a link or snapshot to describe) what you mean by "just gets cut off".

When I load MyRoseMary Project, (scroll down to the 3rd picture), when I size down a screen side to less then 950, the 3rd backround picture is cut off on both sides.

Arthur, if you can see a picture behind the white text box. I do not believe the 3rd picture is cut off (unless you have taken the tick out of the extend to width of the browser in row formats)

In the cell where the text is, the designers have cleverely used a background image with a white centre square (where the text is) surrounded by what looks like 20% black which allows the image behind it to remain visible.

It may be that the contrast and brightness levels of your monitor are such that the background image is hard to see?
