Error in XML document (0, 0). Can't open project.  en

Hello all!

Here is my problem. X5 12 Professional.

I tried to open a project and got the message that some fonts I was using weren't available and would I like to have them substitued with others. I clicked on NO because those fonts are on an external harddrive and I wanted to first connect that drivew and restart X5 so that it would automatically find those fonts.

So I connected the HD and opened the project again. Then the error message that an error happened when REMOVING the project! Hummppfff I NEVER tried to remove the project! I just clicked on NO. It also stated [ XML document (0, 0) has a fault.]

I tried all the options as sudjested here. Copied the backup file, removed the metadata file, removed the preview and backup folders and all kind of combinations of al those solutions. Nothing helps! I even tried creating a new project (empty) and one by one copieing files and folders into that project in explorer, but the new metadata file will do nothing with the old files.

I am really pissed off. I don't want to redo the whole project. The project is uploaded online at carcap.nl and my client is happy with it so far. I need to continue with it and redoing it all is not an option.

So what can I do? Can I change something in the metadata file? Or can I do something else? I know what Incomedia can do though! Warn everyone that they can't count on the normal backup system but should backup the whole project as a iwzip file which can be imported when things go wrong. I am sorry, I am really pissed off!

Fedor, it sounds like you have tried all of the available recovery options that I am aware of sorry. Over the years I have suffered the total loss of only one project, from this time forward I frequently went to step 5 and exported the project, subsequent catastrophies were then simply resolved by importing the (only a little out of date) iwzip file.

In the absence of someobody here offering a magic bullet fix for your corrupted project, I would like to strongly suggest you take this opportunity to upgrade to v15. This offers a number of advantages! I believe there is a issue in the shop if you are using paypal (https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/177770), this is fixed in v15. Unless you are using webfonts (or better still google fonts) in your v12 project, users will not necessarily see the fonts you have chosen. In v15 the google fonts have been seamlessly integrated into WX5 negating the need for local copies, and lastly, in v15 the menu is an object that can be placed anywhere (header, footer, body , left bar, etc) and it offers full control over content like logos, etc. There are also many other changes and enhancements to functionality that in my mind justify the upgrade on their own.

Some of the changes between versions can be found here https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/154023

I am not sure if v12 is still supported by Incomedia, if not you will have to rely on other users.
