I recently puchased the Mile Bailey template which was composed in v15 . I wish to install version V15 of the template to avoid some of the quirks in v17 such as the SSS Grid . If I load up my v17 then a dialogue box insists I convert template to v17. If however I delete the project from v17 and then I load up v15 and try to create a new project then a dialogue box indicates a prohibited operation.
Please help me resolve the dilemma.

Phil, since you own v15 simply load the template when running v15.
After working on your project, go to step 5 export, export project. This will create an iwzip file.
Open v17 and import the project (iwzip file), now you will have 2 versions, one in v15 and one in v17 and you can continue to work on both independently if you wish.
After opening a project in v17 it cannot be opened in any lesser version (eg v15)

Does your last sentance mean that once I have installed on V17 and then deleted it, then no matter what I do I am unable to access the v15 version of the template lf this is the case then it seems that I must wait for the quirks of V17 to be ironed out before I attempt a live project.
Many thanks for your help so far.

The v15 version will not be touched by v17 unless you choose to open it in v17, however, once you do open it in v17, v15 can no longer open it.
If using v17, each project will be identified with the name and version number that last accessed it.
(This is why I still maintain separate folders for projects of different versions, stops confusion, I do not like the new combined folder approach.)
Just pretend you don't own v17, only work in v15 if that is what you prefer.
