Is it possible to create download links for files in the Digital Product section of the shop?  en

Hello,

I wanted to find out if a situation like this is possible with X5 at this time.

I am considering creating a website that has a digital download shop to it.  However, my shop would be consisting of over 400 digital download products, some of which are larger in size.

I have considered uploading all of my files to a site like Dropbox or Sendspace.  However, the problem that I see I'll be encountering, is when it comes down to after a person makes a purchase, since the file delivery seems to be only tied to either a Local File, or an Internet File.

Is there a way to make X5 create a download link (related to my upload in either Dropbox or Sendspace for example) that will be sent to the customer after purchase?  Not sure if this is possible, or with the Temporary Download link option, if there's a way to sync this to a Dropbox download link.

Any information related to this is greatly appreciated.  I'm not sure given the amount and file sizes, if I can upload all of my files onto my webhost provider, as technically between my two websites, I am looking at well over 1,000 files of larger MB's in size each.  Thanks in advance.

Hello German

I think you should consider having a site where there is also space for your files.

I know one.com has a starter pack with 25 GB, and a business with 200 GB.

This will give about 50 MB  for each file with the 25 GB and nearly 500 MB for each of the 400 files for the business with 200 GB.

This way you will have full control over your files, as you can use .htaccess for the files for download.

It is of no use, if  users can find the files and download them. You have to secure that files can only be accessed via the download link..

Hi German,

thank you for your message.

As for now, when setting up a digital product you can only choose between a locally stored file or an online file. I would like to suggest that you open an "Idea" Post where you describe to us the feature you would like to see implemented in the future releases of WebSite X5.

Thanks! Kind regards.

Thank you Elisa, I'll be sure to create a post for the "Idea" section.  While I do believe the option of adding the digital product to the shop catalog either by URL or by local file is great, I also feel that some of us use Cloud services such as Dropbox or Sendspace to name a few, and being able to somehow make the temporary download link "sync" with the URL download link of the Dropbox item for example, would allow the customer to download it, without sacrificing the URL to be seen, and, it would allow us to use a cloud service for our larger download product catalogs instead of loading a bunch of files to our servers and either being forced to upgrade to a $99.99 per month server, or to reduce our catalogs.  I know that there are more people going with the cloud URL route for their digital downloads when regarding music and audio files which are larger in size, so I figured to suggest it.  Thank you again for your help!
