Font types make errors in project  en

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding text editor. Everytime when I copy and paste the text for example from MS Word to X5 text editor, the font of the text is being always changed - even when I set the font in MS WORD to Arial, text editor X5 will recognize it as Arial, sans-serif, then I have to always re-set the text to Arial according to text editor in X5, which is very annoying, due to formatting not only the font type, but formatting also the size, bold... When I reset all and  I run the control in step 5 there will be recognized new type of font - as it is said in error - "used font is not connected to the project" - this is the translation of error message. So I go to repair the font and there is always arial set as font so I don t really know what is the problem. After the returning back to error board in Step 5, and I refresh the check again, visited site sudenly disapears (without me doing anything, just visiting the error text in blog - nothing is changed) so then I do all the visiting and refreshing the check again and again until everything seems to be OK. Then I can load the project up to the server.  Well but, by next blog adding the procedure is the same. I need to do reset all of the font error textes again and again. When I ll have more than 40 articles to correct, it s gonna be bad, because of spending more and more time.

I have also problem with format of the text. Spaces, paragraphs etc is set to whatever format is in X5 editor preset format, so I need correct it again according to X5 text editor.

Thanks for any advise.

BR

Ivan

Fonts are an issue on the web. Once upon a time their were only a few web fonts.

Then came the concept of web safe fonts (fonts that would look nearly the same but not necessarily exactly the same (eg arial, tahoma, etc)

https://web.mit.edu/jmorzins/www/fonts.html

To overcome this problem go to step 2, text field and button style. Set page text (and any others you may choose) to the font you require ( if necessary, manually select the font, select other font types, add, google font, pick your favourite and then select it)

When you select text from an existing document, select the text (block and copy (ctrl C)) and in WX5 right click and select paste special. This will paste the text without formatting in the font style you have chosen as your default (you can achieve the same result with less surprises by only copying text from a txt file because a txt file has no formatting).

Just because you have a PC with certaim fonts installed does not mean that every device has those same fonts (eg most mobiles do not have arial, just an equivalent) and when you publish your website some formatting/spacing/linespacing can be lost. Use websafe fonts or embed google fonts as required for each project.

NB embedded google fonts apply only to the current project (this was not the case in older versions of WX5)

Hi Esahc,

thanks for a reply, I just visited site recommended by you and well here is the result

The fonts that are most safe to use are:

So that verifies, that font I have selected very precisly.

In step 2 I have everywhere selected arial as predefined - see attached file pls.

Ctrl C - paste special I have tried as well, nope - not working as wished - bit better but still need to be revised and corrected.

I tried also other type of font and well even worse result as with arial, because X5 v 16 does not support many fonts as well as v 15, v 14, v 13 all professional versions, what I own, don t know if newer version has any improvement, never tested.

See attached file -

there is written some of the text were not included into the project - fake font  = while opening the project which I had repaired before closing and everything was ok so what s up?

second picture You can see my setup of the text - Arial set as default - it is said there.

Any other ideas? All what you mentioned I have already tried.

I can send you iwzip of the project if necessary.

Thank You

Ivan

Ivan, on the subject of Arial font being websafe you should be aware of the following:

font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif ; This means that if a computer has the Arial font installed, a browser is to use that font to render the pages on the site. Otherwise, it will try to use the Helvetica font. If the latter is also not available, then it should just use any sans serif font it can find.  https://www.thesitewizard.com/webdesign/which-fonts-to-use.shtml In other words, on most devices not supporting Windows, Arial will be substituted. You may never see a problem but it can lead to formatting errors where the metrics of the substituted font vary from Arial metrics

For this reason I choose one or many google fonts (frequently Roboto) and embed each font in each project then set that as the default font. This way my customers see the webpage exactly as I designed it in the exact font I chose.

Your fakefont is almost certainly a separate issue and was probably caused by copy and paste from a word doc or similar. I have experienced similar in the past where a simple space and punctation mark had picked up a random font. You might like to read through this post https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/198824

Before searching in vein for this phantom font, you may first like to follow Stefano's advise.

Go to step 5, export the project. Deselect each of the options (no backup, no preview, no reduce) and create an iwzip. Now restart wx5 and import your newly created iwzip (this will never overwrite your existing project). If the problem font was in a backup then this proceedure should remove it.

Please let us know of success or otherwise.

Hi Esahc,

thanks for a reply. Well I can try changing the font, but customer wants Arial, I always prefer Georgia, but in this case it was denied :-(

So what if I ignore these errors - will it have any influence on website functionality and search engines, or IDK whatelse can it have an influence on?

By using Arial it looks really different when I compare it in the project and on live web.

"Fake font" still hangs out also when I did new iwzip with unchecked everything, I wil check the post of Stefano and maybe I ll find out something new.

Sorry for bothering with so old version, but somehow my PC is collector of Website X5 so I don t know what s improved in new versions.

Thanks

Ivan

Ivan, using arial will not affect the functionality of your site other than as stated above. The fakefont notification will only be an annoyance to you, likewise it will not affect your site from the users point of view.

Even if you upgrade to a current version the fakefont message may persist.

Please regularly create an iwzip and rename it (I add date to name) and store in a safe place, one day it might save you from catastrophe.

Much has changed in recent versions but your version 16 should continue to serve you well for some time yet.

When your version was released many important changes were made:

2012
Versions
12, 13 and 14
Having a desktop and a mobile version of a website was becoming less and less acceptable: version 12 of WebSite X5 introduces responsive design and websites become perfect on any device. People start being confident with online shopping and consequently the WebSite X5 e-commerce engine becomes more powerful: thanks to the WebSite X5 Manager App dealing with websites and products becomes a piece of cake.
Plus, your web pages are more attractive thanks to all the improvements applied to the interface, to the templates and to the graphic design. One of all: the parallax effect.
...
2015
Versions
15, 16 and 17
WebSite X5 was like an old car with a very powerful engine: it was time to give the software a new design that could make the website creation process easier and more intuitive. Plus, two burning issues were taking place: privacy and data protection on the one hand and optimization for Search Engines on the other. WebSite X5 version 16 includes the necessary tools to comply with the legal requirements connected to privacy. At the same time, many new updates, including the introduction of the AMP technology for the blog, keep up with the standards required by Google and other engines.

Subsequent changes can be found here: https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/w5/changelog

If you wish to play, you can download a demo here https://www.websitex5.com/en/new-features.php

In my opinion: If you choose to jump to a current version (since you have professional your only option is the new professional), unless your existing website/s have excessive numbers of pages I would simply start again for each website to take maximum advantage of new and improved features and functionality.
