Cyclic Redundancy Check

Hi everyone,
I updated the program, and when I went to open up a project, it told me that I had to update the project since the program version was new, as per usual, but then, partially through that is says:
Generic Error. (Data error (cyclic redundancy check.)
)
And then doesn't let me open it up or do anything, and when I try to open it again, it does the whole process again. Any ideas?

Melissa, this sounds like a corruption of the primary project.iwprj2 file (although others may have been corrupted).
When you start WX5 can you copy the existing project (purely as a precaution, it is nice to have a duplicate), and then can you select backup, highlight a suitable candidate and select redo.
Please advise success or otherwise.

So I had managed to do something like that, but all of the images are gone, like they show up as broken links. Any ideas to fix it without having to manually go in and replace all of them?
Melissa, are you looking in the correct folder? Projects are normally in documents\incomedia\websiteX5-Pro
You can change this thru preferences on startup after checking the location of your projects with Windows File Explorer.
Is there any chance you have a relatively recent iwzip of your project/s? If so this is the reliable means of recovery (backup recoveries are prone to failure).

Hi Esahc,
Yep, same folder. I have one from a few months ago [thankfully very minimal changes] which does have the images. I'm trying to do a compare & contrast to make it work out.
Good luck Melissa. For what it's worth (having been stung) I create an iwzip (and append the date to the file name) after every editing session just before upload to the internet. I personally believe this step should be automatic and built into WX5.

Yeah, they have the reminder to do the back-up, but it should do it automatically to be on the safe side, especially because files get corrupted frequently enough.
Thanks for the help!
Claudio, I beg to differ. The built in backup is rubbish. It backs up 2 files, but it does not backup all required files which are also prone to corruption. The only safe backup is the iwzip file and it is remiss of Incomedia not to implement an automated process to ensure users can recover. Perhaps more importantly, the iwzip enables recovery to new or different hardware.
Melissa had backups, WX5 failed her.

Hi Esahc, Claudio,
As Esach pointed out, I did have all those settings turned on, and yet the program still failed me. All that I did was update the program, it was working fine a week and a half ago. I have dozens of backups created because of the fact that I did once lose all my progress on a site, and wouldn't want to repeat the process.
Yes, decreasing risk is good, however the point here is that if the backup system isn't reliable, that defeats the purpose of it being there.
