Six months ago I was having no trouble uploading changes to my hosting server. Post subsequent updates, I now get a message saying 'unable to connect to server'. I haven't changed anything and the upload info is still there. What has X5 done that I need to undo? I feel sabotaged.....

to my best knowladge nothing has changed in x5, do you have an own hosting or that from x5?
If your own, then check your hosting, check login and password, i just uploaded an older project to my own hosting without any problems.
It would be helpful to post a screenshot of the error message to see in which environment it is displayed.
If necessary, also mention the name of the web hosting provider and the URL of the website.
Was the project converted from an older version? The username or password may have been changed unnoticed during the conversion. It's best to re-enter both by hand - not with copy & paste, as this could potentially add spaces.

Screenshot attached. I haven't changed any of the upload details - the FTP address is antonymale.co.uk
I've checked with another of my websites and am getting the same message
Website address (URL) with / at the end.
Destination folder with / at the beginning.

Yes, X5 has brought out a new version since I last did an upload and the project was converted...

Thanks - tried that but didn't make any difference, I'm afraid. I did get a red ! against 'parameters' but it looks as it was previously, to me.
So it's probably due to incorrect FTP information; invisible spaces or similar could have crept in during an update or invisible control characters during copying.
Since the WebSiteX5 users in the community cannot check FTP information from other users, the user has to check this himself.
This is what it looks like in my demo shop (without SSL).

I live in Germany and am with Hosteurope. I have no problems.
Consider mentioning the web hosting provider so that other users can browse their help pages to find information about FTP. You may find information about changes to FTP information there.
In questi casi è possibile:
- Provare a cambiare la modalità di trasmissione FTP da ATTIVA a PASSIVA (o viceversa)
- Modificare le impostazioni del Firewall aggiungendo un'eccezione per il programma FTP

Hi, if there are no active filters on the IP addresses set automatically by your hosting provider (filters to be disabled or enabled only for your IP), then check the Firewall.
Some firewalls block FTP data connections (data connections are activated on dynamic ports other than 21).
In these cases it is possible:
- Try changing the FTP transmission mode from ACTIVE to PASSIVE (or vice versa)
- Change the Firewall settings by adding an exception for the FTP program

Thank you for your contributions, which are much appreciated.....I've just learned that there was a glitch on the server-side that was causing the problem, which has now been fixed.
Life is complex!!
