Website not updating  en

Just lately I have had problem with my website files updating.  I am making changes and the files appear in the queue for updating but no changes are made.  The preview is fine and any changes made appear on the preview.  I have now checked the files in the preview directory and upload directory and there are some differences.  This apears to stem from when I used a welcome page.  I now no longer use the welcome page but the home.html and index.php are still in the upload directory.

Am I able to fix this by copying the files in the preview directory into the upload directory?

Tony I would leave the Incomedia files on your computer well alone!

All that concerns you is your FTP Export to your server...... Now if you are NOT using a Welcome Page and there's a "Home.html" on your server, delete it! (Otherwise this will appear in the search engines)

Secondly if you are saying that you cannot see the changes made on the internet, refresh your browser after each upload while viewing your website. This is assuming the server has sufficient space to accommodate your changes.....

Thanks Frank but it wasn't the browser cache or a space issue and thanks Noemi but it wasn't connection issue.  Right now I can't tell what the issue was as I was more concerned with getting my site back up and working.

The course of events were:

I edited or added a page.  worked fine.

I previewed the page.  This was correct on the preview.

I checked the preview directory and the file timestamp was correct.

Now when I said that the files were in the update directory, it wasn't fully correct as I hadn't checked the time stamps.  But now I know that some files weren't updating the upload directory.

As for the old welcome page - The files existed on the server so I renamed them with Filezilla.  The files didn't appear in the preview files but did appear in the upload directory.  Consequently, after uploading the welcome screen files came back.  I tried A full upload and still the welcome files were there.  I went to advanced setting, enabled the welcome screen, saved the project, previewed the welcome screen, back into advanced settings, disabled the welcome screen, saved project, previewed and the welcome screen had gone, did a full upload and still the the welcome screen files were in the upload directory.

I was going just delete the files in the upload directory but then I thought that may screw up the incremental upload log files and as I couldn't read them I thought it would get messy.

In the end, I exported the project and created a new project and imported project back in.  This created a clean upload directory without the welcome screen files.  As far as I am concerned this issue can be closed however, I would like to know when do the files in the upload directory get created and do they get created from the preview files and if not where from.

I also have a problem with website not exporting the updates.  I read on a previous answer that the problem may lie with not having the latest updated version.  I checked and tried to update the site as instructed, but get the error message "Error while updating: 406".  What am I doing wrong?  This happened twice.  The first time I was asked to check that there were no other programmes running, so I turned everything else off, but still no luck.
