Version 9 no longer working  en

I have upgraded from V9 to V10 and V10 is working without a problem.  But if I try to launch V9 I get an Activation screen which asks for a licence number.  I enter my V9 licence number but it tells me that it is no longer valid as it has been upgraded.  Is this normal?  Does it mean I can no longer use V9?

Hello,

You are right. You have an upgrade from V9 to V10 so you can use the V10 only.

I have read other posts which say that we can no longer use version 9.  But this cannot be correct.  We were able to use V8 and V9 on the same PC - http://answers.websitex5.com/post/1666

It is urgent that I am able to open my Version 9 websites which have not been imported into version 10 and I have heard nothing from Support.

Hello Tony, effectively, V8 and V9 were able to use on the same PC. Read this another post about V9 vs V10 :

http://answers.websitex5.com/post/55025

I think you have to do a Private Post to find a solution with the support.

Can someone tell me URGENTLY! how to retrieve my version 9 projects?????  I have clients websites that need updating urgently.  I have many projects and do not want to convert them all to version 10.  I want to continue to use version 9.  I have paid for version 9 and want to carry on using it.  If I had known that I would not have been able to retrieve my version 9 projects I would not have upgraded.  I would like someone to give me a licence key to access my version 9 projects NOW!!!!

More info...  I found this in the "Converting projects" PDF document :

I have updated to WebSite X5 Evolution 10: can I still use WebSite X5 Evolution 9?

There are two possible situations here:

1. You purchased a license to update from version 9 to version 10.

You receive the complete new program. Version 9 and version 10 can co-exist on the same computer and work as two distinct programs. However, in this case the license already in your possession for version 9 is updated: the new software is not added to it. So, after a transition phase for updating your projects, version 9 must be uninstalled.

2. You purchased a full license for version 10.

Unlike the previous case, this license is added to your license for version 9. Both programs can co-exist and be used without limits to cre-ate new websites with version 10, and use version 9 to carry on working with old projects (not converted to version 10).

Why wasn't it made clear when after purchasing the upgrade that I was unable to use Version 9?

When I upgraded from V8 to V9 I was able to use both versions.

I must have access to V9.  I have over 100 projects that need converting and they are being updated all the time so it is impossible to convert them all at the same time.  Please tell me if it is possible to export the V10 projects I now have and to import them into V9?  If I can then I would prefer not to have V10 on my pc and I will revert back to V9.

It is URGENT I have access to V9.  I have websites to update tonight!!!

I have looked at my V10 purchase information.  No where does it say that I am unable to use the previous version.

I would be grateful if you would comment on this.

I too am greatly concerned about the lack of clarity over the V9 to V10 upgrade issue.  I currently have V8 & V9.  My V9 was purchased as an upgrade to V8, yet I can continue to use both.  Why is the situation any different for V9 to V10, and if it is indeed different then why is this not made explicitly clear when offering the reduced upgrade price to current users?  It appears at best misleading and at worst dishonest.

I feel for Tony and the many others who got a nasty surprise when they suddenly realised (without prior warning!) that they could no longer work with their V9 projects.

Incomedia Website X5 is a great piece of software, but I for one will not be upgrading to V10 if this situation persists.  I don't understand the reasoning behind it, but Incomedia have certainly lost the revenue on at least one upgrade (my own!) on account of it.

It just doesn't make commercial or practical sense, is out of step with other leading software companies, and makes prospective buyers overly cautious, especially given the fact that there have been significant numbers of bugs reported in the new V10 version.  Why would I throw away a perfectly good working copy of V9 to 'upgrade' to a buggy, questionable V10?  It's not going to happen Incomedia, and you have lost almost fifty Euros on account of this illogical and intransigent policy.

Please reconsider your software licensing arrangement, otherwise you run a serious risk of alienating and losing many long-standing customers such as myself and Tony.

Thanks for the support Paul.  I made this post public because Incomedia still won't answer my post.  The situation is serious as I cannot fulfill a clients needs and he will take his business elsewhere and I will have spend more money to retrieve my own data which is stupidity itself.

Would someone from Incomedia please answer my post.  How can I retrieve my V9 data?????

Hello Tony, i am not from support but i try to help.

Export your projext to iwzip file.  ( I think (hope) you have allready these backupfiles made with v9.  Open V10 and import these files, they will be automaticly converted to V10).

Hope I helped you.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for trying to help.  But I have over 100 projects in Website X5.  I have only converted a few as nearly all my projects are for clients.  As a lot of the projects need updating each day, there was no way to export all the V9 projects at the same time.  Also, I use file level backups and do not back up by exporting projects.  So when I first installed V10  I had only three projects in an iwzip file.  All the rest are still in their V9 file versions.  I have no way of accessing them as Incomedia has disabled my V9 application.

I am monitoring this thread for the same reason, Tony.  If Incomedia choose to decline to respond (i.e. ignore) your request, then that in itself is a response of sorts and I will take note accordingly.  Customer service should be the no. 1 priority for any business, and I am prepared to take my business elsewhere if necessary, perhaps to Serif who seem to have a good alternative.

Still no answer and as I guess all the support people will be going home soon I don't suppose I will get an answer today.

Paul,  If things do not get sorted out soon then I will have to download Serif WebPlus or use Wave CMS.

I had bought Serif WebPlus 4 and version 5, believe me, Website X5 is much much more easy to use.

Even if X5 is easier to use, I would rather give my money to a company who have a clear upgrade policy.  The Incomedia support staff were answering other questions all day today, yet there was no response whatsoever to this thread.  My opinion of the company has nose-dived literally within 24 hours, from very favourable to somewhat questionable.  It is not much to ask for a clear explanation of the reasoning behind the change in upgrade policy?  At the very least customers can then make an informed decision as to whether they want to risk investing fifty Euros in a buggy v10 with no way back to V9, or stick with what they know already works.  What good is ease of use, if I end up disliking v10 over v9?

I am also concerned about the legality of this whole matter.  Unlike many others, I have not yet upgraded.  It was only by good fortune in reading these forums that I discovered the plight of many, such as Tony, for whom the removal of v9 functionality was a cruel surprise.  With this information I decided NOT to upgrade to v10, unless Incomedia can give an assurance that there is a downgrade path back to v9 at no extra cost, or unless they just drop the whole ridiculous restriction altogether.

Can someone from Incomedia please state clearly and plainly exactly where the customer is warned about the loss of v9 functionality prior to making the v10 upgrade purchase?  I cannot find any reference either on the web or upgrade email, etc.

I know these forums are regularly monitored, and will take 'no response' as an indication that Incomedia do not have a valid answer.  And in that case I respectfully suggest they are in breach of contract.

I am not alone in my opinion on the matter, and will be very vocal on the web about the issue should the matter not be resolved satisfactorily.  I am genuinely saddened at the disappointment and frustration shared by others along with myself over the v10 issues.  My journey with Website X5 has up till now been a very pleasant one, but I feel we are on the verge of going our separate ways.  No company can afford that sort of reputation, and I am bewildered as to why Incomedia seem either powerless or unwilling to keep us in the fold.  But I will keep building websites no matter what, and if not with X5 v10 then Serif, Xara and the rest are only a mouse click away.
