Wish List
Author: Tony B.I think that Incomedia have missed an opportunity with Version 9. They could have made an already excellent product into an even better one. Unfortunately, from Website X5 user point of view, it is little more than a cosmetic update. Now, even my webspace provider offers a comparable package to WebsiteX5. I think that the Users of Website X5 could make it a better product by pushing for the kind of updates that should have been in Version 9. From the messages I have seen on the forum the areas there needs to be significant improvement.
In other software forums I belong to there is a Wish List section where people can publish their ideas and others can vote for this idea. The software publisher will then comment on the idea, and should it get significant votes, give a status when it is likely to be published.
As we don't have a voting system then maybe when someone posts an idea everyone could post a reply with a simple "YES" to show they would like this.
To start the Wish List I offer broad areas that could be released in Version 10 that would impress existing and new users.
Webstore: Even though there is a big change in V9 it is still not professional enough to compete with some of the free online webstores. Better importing, more categorisation, more shipping and tax options, better navigation and database integration. I am sure that those who use this feature a lot would like to add more suggestions.
Database: Very weak and difficult to use. Many users would like to keep better customer records, products and inventory or bookings. A complete new module is required including form designs, form and database administration and reporting.
CMS: So many of WebsiteX5 users are designers of sites for their customers. There needs to be at least a minimal degree of CMS to allow Site owners to add images, product information, news items and blogs.
Widgets: Good idea but no progress and no support.
Forum: I only speak English and a little French but it is impossible for everyone to translate all of the forum issues into their own language. I think that should a significant problem be found or idea be published then the Forum Admin should publish it in all the forum languages. Also, a separate section should be opened just for Incomedia support calls. There are far too many regististration issues or similar problems published.
There are also many things about V9 that need small improvements. I am sure that you would feel that it is worth commenting on what needs improving if there was better feed back from Incomedia. I am inviting them to comment on this post and what can be done to improve the communication and publish of new features in the next version of the product.
I agree with you 100 %. I'm user of x5 for several years and this is a great aplication for non complicated web sites. When you build a portal , php script, or even custom made css frames this is desister. So i pray the incomedia that update is more accasional. Css frame codes is not compatible with IE, Chrome, new frefox... Every browser sees diferent over images and css frames...ETC...
Hello Tony, I confirm you that this is the right place where to post any new IDEA that anyone can comment.
I think that you always have to remember that WSX5 was born as a home user software and its pourpose is to permit to any person, who has no HTML knowledge, to create his website and online store. WSX5 is not a CMS just because it works offline and it doesn't use any sort of database.
We have also expert users who use the software to create websites for their customers. They can use all the advanced functions and add all their personal HTML, CSS, PHP, etc code.
The Widgets were introduced in this version and we plan to expand them and also to permit our users to create personal widgets by their own. We will create a special website for the widgets.
About Answers, it is not necessary that you translate a message, you simply have to search what you can read and understand. I confirm you that we translated the software in 18 languages because many users are really happy to use a software in their native language.
If you want you can set a post as Private, so only Incomedia will see it. By this way you can already request a special channel of support.
Anyway feel free to post here all your ideas. We will evaluate them respecting all our ideas of WSX5, that is: "permit to create as many things as possible but always in a simple way".
We want to store the data captured in a database. This needs to be automatically and we can do that with option 2.
All we need is the notification that information has been sent to a database. All we need is a mailto field in option 2. Or a sample script that we can schedule in our database to check for updates and send a notification.
Your suggestion gives us the notifiation but doesn't update the database.
Can I formally request that you add to a future update an email address field, in option 2, that is used to send the notification of a database update.
I think Tony.B said it all, i believe what he said is what we(customers) think and feel.~
this software has so many potential indeed but its loosing credibility in my point of view... Anyway i hope x5 staff and developers start to listen to customers instead of saying "uhum sure we will analyze the situation" and then nothing is solved or done.
Hello Holytemplar and thanks to all people here for their suggestions.
Please just note that WSX5 is a software useful for any kind of users, especially for who has no knowledge of programming languages or database. For this reason we didn't introduce the db yet, apart for the Email Object we just added in this version 9.
Surely there are many useful feautures that could be added, especially for expert users, but it's important to leave the software as easy as possible: this is our goal! For this reason we MUST evaluate all the suggestions not only as a technical request.
You have also to consider that WSX5, via the HTML Code Object, is a sort of HTML editor, so you can integrate and add any kind of programming language you want (PHP, ASP, JS, etc). As instance you can implement a notify email directly just editing the PHP code of WSX5 right now.
So you don't need to wait for us ! Obviously it is simpler to get it already done by us...
This software was born to create a website in an easy way, but now it has really many many features and we also start having many "expert" users too. We are evaluating this aspect and thinking on different solutions so we could make all our users happy!
i understand pretty well what your saying Steve R... But in that case why not create a package for "expert" users? It seems you have some diferente packages right? Evolution , compact , smart , etc... So why not make a pack that indeed is for "experts", think about it it could be a very good option... I know i would buy it ;)
Yes, this could be a right solution! Anyway if some features is still missing, an expert could add it editing the source code! Thanks.

I don't actually think what we are asking for is for "expert" processes because if I was an expert in html or php (in other words, a web site developer) I would probably be using a totally different package. WSX5 works well because it provides an excellent tool for use by website designers who can build websites without the need for a website developer but also are able to manipulate interfaces to give their customers enhanced content. You have made a great start by providing simple forms and links to mysql databases but the lack of notification is a serious flaw. We have an online booking form but have lost customers because their booking wasn't seen by us. So we have reverted to option 1 of sending data to an email address and then manually entering this into the database so making option 2 useless. This makes it difficult for WSX5 web designers to sell as a feature to their customers.
Thanks for the suggestion of editing the source code. Maybe you could provide a basic guide on how to do that. However, surely if we edit the code any changes will be reverted by an update to WSX5 or if we change the email object (add a field, for instance) and then up load this will also wipe out the change made to the code?
Thanks, in this case the best way is to use the HTML code Object, so the code will be not changed! The HTML code Object is the solution for a developer to solve any particular request that is not already included in WSX5 :-)
