Mobile Optimisation  en

Please can you inform me if there is an option in Website X5 Evolution to optimise for mobile devices?

My website provider has informed me my website is not optimised for mobile devices so will be relegated in the google search rankings as a result.

If I cannot optimise for mobile devices I may need to look at alternative software.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello Tim,

The websites made with the program are adapted to mobile screens but these are not responsive. An option is to create a copy of the project and then use on this copy a mobile template of the available ones and then you organise the content one under the other by trying to add maximum 1 object every row.

In this way it will have better results on mobile devices.

Many thanks!

I don't follow what you're saying here.

Are you suggesting I need 2 versions of my website: 1 for mobile and 1 for desktop?

I can only upload 1 version, and if I limit the design to 1 object per row it will appear strange on a desktop PC.

Google have a test for if a website is optimised for mobile:

https://www.google.co.uk/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

If the website fails this test (as mine does), it is relegated in the search rankings.

My point is that if I cannot optimise for mobile without compromising the design appearance on a desktop PC I will have to invest in alternative web creation software.

I cannot afford to be relegated in Google searches.

Hey Tim, you might want to check out X5 V12 coming out that's in beta testing. You can build a responsive site with breakpoints or there is a built in redirect for 2 separate sites.

Hello Tim,

If the website fails to this test this does not affect the search rankings on Desktop but only on mobile searches.

You can upload 2 versions of the same website where in one you use a mobile template. You need to upload the second one in a subfolder as example /mobile/ or /m/

Google allows this type of mobile friendly setup as exaplained here how to setup all correctly:

https://developers.google.com/webmasters/mobile-sites/mobile-seo/configurations/separate-urls

Many thanks!

Thanks Donald, I will look at the new package.

Claudio I appreciate the advice, however I am certainly not inclined to build a second version of my website and start adding lines of code as you seem to suggest is necessary.

The search rankings on mobile are important to me as a large proportion of internet users search on mobile devices.

The reason I chose Website X5 was so I didn't have to insert lines of code, or build more than one website.  If I have to do that, what is the benefit of your package?

There are other website creation packages that incorporate optimisation for mobile into the core design - even free sites such as Blogger are automatically optimised for mobile.

I think it is a shame mobile optimisation is not incorporated in V11 and I am not convinced I will upgrade.

Wait until the smoke and dust clears after the release of V12 which includes what you're looking for. Keep in mind to rewrite the code for X5 to include breakpoints was a massive project. One big competitor out of the UK flatly states they cannot and will not redo their program and going down. I could say a lot about other programs, as I've purchased 6 in the last 3 years with 3 being responsive. But that would be my word, so look around and see what's out there. If you find something better, switch. Not sure either, how well a previous version is going to import into V12, although they're working on it.
