So after a HDD Crash, all I am left with is the actual data files as uploaded to my ftp server.
It is easy to geat all the data falies back, however, is there a trick to use these files as part of a new project.
I really can not redo the entire websites (3) from scractch.
I actually have the directories and all the data, what I am missing is the project files, ...
......project.iwprj2
See attached pic, I have all the data,
There has to be a way to make it work .

There are many posts about this.
There is no attachments to see?.
If you have an intact project folder it is maybe possible to recreate. If you only have the files on the server it is not possible.
The iwzip file is so important.

I have attached the complete directory structure as an image.
All my sites were Exported to a folder, Item 3 under Menu 5
You need the project file *. iwprj2 or a backup *. iwprj2 and open the project with wx5.
You can import the *.iwzip file (from item 4 under Menu 5).
If you only have the html and php files published as if, there is only the way to recreate the Projekt and, according to the HP, to recreate the structure and import content.

So after a long nite we have managed to recover most of the data from the crashed drive.
See the attached pic. The iwprj2 project file/s are available but there is no .iwzip files.
Alternatively, what is the procedure to Restore a Backup, because the Backup directory was also recovered.

Gerrit
It looks like a project, but through the recovery system you have additional data in it all that can be seen with _1 are probably double the files. copy this file to another place.
To compare, you should create a new project and preview and save fur-guide to see the structure.
I can't judge what's in the 4 directories, the library is important for images, etc.
If you use the original website for Websitex5, you can now copy the saved data again.
Original directory: C:\Users\USERAME\Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Professional
To see at the very beginning of websitex5-Settings
After that, the projects should be back in place to open.
Example of an intact directory for v17:
Project: (Naturbiokraft-ch)
Library:
Backup:
Since we are using subdirectories within Websitex5 for the projects, there is another directory in the examples that you probably will not use.Compare with the directory of a newly created project.
For the first preview of the rescued project you should use ctrl preview.

It is best to create an iwzip file first if you can reopen the project.
This can be imported at any time.

I have all the data for all 3 websites, I have all the directories, project files, the whole lot.
All Duplicate files have been deleted.
When I open the Index files for all 3 websites, they open perfect in a browser.
But I can not open them in Website X5, because there are no .1wzip files.
HOW DO I CREATE THE IWZIP FILES ?
Gerrit, according to the screenshot discspeed-recovered you appear to have retrieved the full project.
Assuming WX5 is using default directories you will have c:\users\yourname\Documents\Incomedia\Website X5 - Professional
From the recovered directory structure copy Discspeed_v16_v16 including all content into the Website x5-Professional folder
The final result should be c:\users\yourname\Documents\Incomedia\Website X5 - Professional\Discspeed_v16_v16
If you now open WX5 you should be able to load your project. If there are other projects you can follow the same steps.
Once successfully opened, go to step 5 export, export project to create an iwzip file in case of future need. As JJ said, this is the best and safest form of backup. You should do this often, WX5 allows you to rename the iwzip file on the fly so that you will always have multiple backups to choose from. The iwzip is not required but it is a great safeguard when a catastrophe strikes.
Please advise if you are still having difficulties.

Nooo luck, my sites open up completely messed up in Website X5.
Is there a way to start a new project, and then I copy my html files etc, into the working directory in order to speed things up?
Fortunately my sites are live and fine, however, I need to do product price changes almost daily....Is there a recommended Live HTML editor that I can use in the interim, until I have redesigned my sites in Website X5 ?
Regards,
Gerrit
Gerrit, if your project(s) cannot be repaired, then yes, the simplest method is to create a new project. You would need to copy the content from the online site (or resources on your PC) to this new project (eg copy and paste text, copy images and save them and then place them in the project, etc).
Since you say that you can successfully open a recovered project is there any chance that a backup can also be restored (select project, click backup, select a recent backup and click redo)?
You can not simply grab the html pages and import them into WX5 - it does not work that way. Whilst you could edit the existing online html, I doubt whether the result would be satisfactory and if a shop is involved the results could be very unexpected.

Please clarify this in more detail...
Do I have to copy the text and images, page by page by page to the new PAGES in my project ?
OR
Can I copy the .html files, pcss, xml files into the new Project directory, in order to speed up the new project creation?
Gerrit, you must copy text and images object by object.
Author
Nooo sorry, that will be way too time consuming.
I have found a selection of sofware on the web, that will utilise, my exiting data, to speed up the creation of a new site.
So this is the price one has to pay for a WYSIWYG editor such as X5....Not being able to edit at a directory level.
My sites are just too large to recreate page by page in X5
Hi Gerrit
It is very unclear as how exactly your project is showing up in the software's preview after recovering the project's files.
If the project can be opened again without errors, most of it contents should still be there. Perhaps some image might be missing but that should be it.
Would it be possible for you to attach here a couple screenshots that exactly show what you're seeing in the preview compared to how the website should look online?
Please do so and let me know here so that I might further help you out with this issue
Thank you
Stefano

A few days before the HDD crashed I used Option 3 (Export Website to Disk)
I have these complete Exports, but it seems to be useless in recreating a website in X5
Attached you can see the Discspeed Export to Disc
So I have given up now......I am not going to work for weeks to re create the sites in X5...
I will find a Live HTML Text Editor so that I can change product pricing live on my sites....

Gerrit, as you are now painfully aware step 5 export website to disk is of no value as a backup, it is designed so you can run your website locally and/or upload your site via a 3rd party FTP client.
Step 5 export project DOES create the perfect backup (iwzip).
I wish you much luck in finding an interim solution to your problem, but did you at least try restoring one or 2 backups? And can you explain "my sites open up completely messed up" and perhaps provide details as requested by Stefano?

Perhaps I should provide you with proper English descriptions in your X5 menu, to prevent issues such as this.
To tell me I am now "Painfully Aware", is very insulting to a user of your product, you say it with a sense of satisfaction !!!
What you should be doing is to make your Menu Descriptions more informative.
EXPORT THE WEBSITE TO A FOLDER TO COPY IT TO A CD/DVD/USB, OR TO CHANGE THE HTML CODE, ....
..... is 100% misleading. If you speak to a 1000 people the majority will perceive this to indicate that the site can be placed on removeable media, to be used on another computer.
Pehaps you should add ONE line that reads, THIS IS NOT FOR BACKUP OR RESTORE PUPOSES.
To BACK UP YOUR PROJECT PLEASE EXECUTE THE NEXT STEP.
These are not the only misleading menu descriptions in your software, I have come across many instances where Descriptions are very confusing, and only through trial and error, could I determine what the actual purpose of the menu item was.
...... "did you at least try restoring one or 2 backups"
I have asked this earlier in the message trail above, and as yet no one has answered me as to where the RESTORE MENU is...!!!!!!
Another fix for your next update, ADD A RESTORE OPTION IN MENU 5
If you have no source files there is possibility to use other programm WYSIWYG, that could edit html/php files. Some times ago I did it in Polish programm Pajaczek and made some small changes in one project when I lost iwzip file.
Gerrit - firstly let me apologise, I forget that a turn of phrase that I may use as an Aussie can sometimes be jarring or confronting to others. You should also be aware that I do not work for Incomedia, I am merely a user trying to assist others.
I do not find the discription "EXPORT THE WEBSITE TO A FOLDER TO COPY IT TO A CD/DVD/USB, OR TO CHANGE THE HTML CODE" in any way misleading, I do however agree that "EXPORT THE PROJECT" is understated. It should be far more obvious to the user that this is the only totally reliable form of backup, that such a backup will create an IWZIP file and will enable the project to be opened on this or any other PC with the appropriate version (or later) of WX5 installed. Perhaps the heading should be changed to "RELIABLE BACKUP TO ALLOW FULL RECOVERY WITH SOURCE FILES AND/OR TRANSFER TO A DIFFERENT PC PLUS EASY UPGRADE BETWEEN VERSIONS". I have gone to bat for the replacement of the existing Backup solution on a number of occasions, this is an example https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/194459 others agree.
BACKUP
As for existing backup and restore. Every time you upload a project to the web using the built in FTP a backup is automatically made, you also have the option to create a backup at any time by clicking the down arrow next to save. Don't get me wrong, this Backup is not ideal and can fail given certain circumstances (IWZIP is by comparison VERY good).
Your directory structure indicates you have a backup directory, so next time you start WX5, highlight the project, click backup (yes I agree, it should say Restore), select a likely candidate, click redo. (these instructions were included in my second post above)
