How to create a database in Professional

Database - I am confused about using X5 Professional database. Normally I would create the database parameters on the server, not within an application like X5. Are we supposed to do that and link it to X5 or will X5 create the database for us and we do not need to create the database ourselves on the server? I am referring to creating a membership database. Help.

Hello Robert,
You need to create the MySQL Database itself, on your server, with an associated username and password. WebSite X5 will automatically create the Table for each Email Form Object you work with, although there is absolutely nothing to stop you creating the Table manually if you prefer.
If you are using the new Automatic Registration feature in Professional, then the procedure is the same... create the Database on your server, and X5 will create a Table for you, with the name of your choice that you specify in the settings.
In both cases you need to supply WebSite X5 with your Database username and password, and of course the hostname (usually 'localhost' if the Database is on the same server as your site). The rest is all pretty transparent, and it works beautifully.

Thanks. It seems that I have done all of that but I get errors when I try to Register a new member. It says it cannot communciate with the database. I will try again.
Also, what is with the Online Control Panel, it does not show anything except my Blog content (Categories and comments)? Shouldn't that be showing the members list and test area? It automatically goes to blog.php when I enter the link (mywebsite.com/admin) on the browser.

Please note that you can of course also use software like PHPmyAdmin to configure your database. Many webhosts offer this (or similar) as a standard option in their server control panel.

Thanks Paul. I have made great progress thanks to your help. However,I have one remaining issue. When I select UPDATE to pull the users who have used Automatic Registration down to my desktop, I get the following error:
Connection Error: it is not possible to complete operation.
What could be causing this?
Just to let you into a little secret I have also experienced this error since I started using Automatic Registration in exactly the same way as you describe. I have been in communication with Claudio about it, and am working with him to try and find the solution.
I know that up till now I had been the only one who seemed to have experienced this error. However, now that you have also reported it Robert, it may be that there is a small bug which needs to be ironed out somewhere in an update.
In the meantime I can state with confidence that this error has not caused any difficulty in using the Automatic Registration - it has just meant that I have been unable to move the auto-registered users to the manually assigned groups, something which I have not needed to do up till now.

Thank you Pauil. It is a relief to know that I am not imagining things. I also ran in toi a wierd situation today on a project which for some reason "grabbed" ahold of 2 videos that I had made of my nephew's wedding and insisted on sending them along with the Project file to the server. Each time ZI would see these being uploaded I would have to sop the upload and go back and delete the files and the folder (video) that they were in within the project. I never did figure out what caused this and have scanned the files and my computer thinking it was a virus but it was not. So keep your eyes open for this strange problem. I also duplicated the project before I knew this was a proble and had to deal with it in 2 projects as a result.
I am gun-shy now each time I upload thinking it may come back.
Last question about the registration - I assume that the entire registration list remains on the server. So when I finally get to download the list to my PC and I make changes and deletions, will this data get uploaded to the server again so that my local changes upodate the server's records?

Paul - I just disocvered that after I Auto Register and then log in I am unable to get in because the system says that I have not been activated yet? Yet the Online Control Panel show me as bveing validated.

Hello Robert,
About the connection issue when you update, download the attachent and then unzip it and then copy it the x5engine.php file in the RES folder in the installation folder of WebSite X5 Professional 10 in program files and also in the the RES folder on your exported website and then start the program again and try to update again the list.
About the Video files, did you previously add them in the project in the Video Object and then you changed files but the object is still present?

On the videos I cannot remmebr what I did. Originally I tried to upload tghat video to Youtueb but they rejected it because it included a sound track that was in the wedding dance so I tried to upload it to site but I cannot remember whaty happenedd after that becasue I posted in Drop box instead. It is resolved now though.
I am seeing problems with FeedReady on one site where everytime I visit the site on my iPhone FeedReady wants to be opened but then the system attempts to send the feed to the iPhones's Podcast App and not to Feedready.

Hello Bob,
Did you add the file in both RES folders, the one in program files and the one online on the hosting space?
Is the URL in step 1 in the program correct?
For the FeedReady app try to add the link function "App mobile" with the option to open the app to show the feed and then visit the website and click on it. If it's still not working try to uninstall FeedReady and then install it again and then try again.

Claudio - I think it is working now. I do not know what was wrong before.
However, the sorting issue that I raised is a problem. It is sorting all feeds for a given site ALPHABETICALLY and not in date sequence. There does not appear to be a feature for FeedReady that allows the user to sort their feeds in date sequence. The user should be able to sort the data either way, don't you agree?
