Blank preview and object screens 
Author: Nigel P.Interesting problems with X5 Text object, Table object and Preview.
For no reason at all, all the above are displaying blank, when earlier, on same day, they worked OK
Text and Table object when single clicked, show data held in the small preview box to the lower right. Double click to enter the object shows no data or fonts and its impossible to edit any thing ie even to create new data.
Selecting Preview, with or without the ctrl key being pressed, shows a blank preview screen. I can see the data created in the preview file in a browser so the data for the preview is being created (I changed the site to Responsive).
Tried several of my sites and all have the same problem. I am lucky that I can work on these sites on my laptop copy as a fall back.
This is on all sites that I have tried. Any ideas?

Also if you start a new project do you experience the same issue?
Please try to repair the .NET Frameworks by following these steps:
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off
Clear the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and then click on OK. Clear also the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 and then click on OK.
After Windows disables the feature you will need to go back to re-enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and 4.6 and then click ok.
Once done trst it again.

I have carried oyt the repair and all the problems (as above) still exist.

Please try also to reinstall the Visual C++ 2013 from following link by choosign the X86 Version also if your OS is 64bit:

This is even stranger, the same problem occurs in V11 Pro and in V10 Pro the preview fails but the Text Object works OK.
Does this confuse the matter or help.

Doesn't work with the latest upgrade to 12.05.22 (Preview Text and Table Object dont work)

It seems strange the same started also with older versions. There must be a component on windows which is corrupt to cause all this.
Please try also to run windows in safe mode and then test the program inthe safe mode to see if there it works.
Try also to reinstall the program.

Entered into Windows 10 safemode and tried to run X5. The project selection screen was displayed and I selected a project.
The image shows the error message displayed.
This also showed when trying to create a new project. X5 aborted when eithe the 'X' or 'OK' button was pressed

I have reinstalled the latest version again but no change, the problems are still there. I also tried running the program as Administrator but without success.

The issue you experience is on the computer and the update contains the program but if there are components in windows which are not working correctly these needs to be fixed manually.

the problem persists even before and after the upgrade ! frameworks and other already having the previous version has been re-installed and more as I have also written me in this post. But the problem persists even dsopo update 12.0.5.22 version !
so ... you must do again the framework and other update? After every update ws ? Mah, think you are something normal ? I do not think so!

No progress here either, tried the tools again, just disabled Hyper V but to no avail.
Updated W10 with latest updates on both machines.
Checked the Visual C versions against those on my laptop, which is still OK, but no difference.
Not sure where to go now, any other ideas as it seems the problem is not unique to me.

I have spent several hours trying to find whether the problem was caused by a new software installation or update but to no avail.
I have recarried out all the .net framework reloads, X5 removal and reinstallation etc but to no avail.
I have created new projects but an unable to do anything with the Text, Table or HTML objects therefore cannot create a project with those item.
I have created a project with the items on my laptop and copied them over, but as before the Objects remain uneditable even though the text appears in the Object preview window.
I have attached an image relating to the use of the Preview, where the HTML text used for the preview is shown. As before, if I go to the X5 generated preview folder all the data is there and veiwable from any of the browsers.
It is though there is a local server problem within X5.
I am currently looking at a system restore back to the middle of January but I need to back up what I already have, before proceeding as various other non X5 files / documents will have been changed / created in the time period. Can you investigate the server problem before I hit the button on the restore, as I am dreading doing it.

Please send me the test project you made so I can make some further tests. It is strange it affect only tese objects and it seems to depend on a change made on your computer which is no longer allowing it to work correctly on these objects.
What you can try to do is to close all processed in background in the computer and then see if so the preview works so we can see if there's a program which is causing this.

After much playing around I have found a work round, I have changed the webserver port settings from default 8080 to 8081.
This has resulted in the pages being displayed together with the HTML, Text and Table objects becoming usable again.
Both the above have resulted in the software now working such that I can make some progress. The only problem is that the port changes have resulted in the preview taking 5 to 10 seconds to start doing anything, sometimes longer.
If I choose to use an alternative browser, selected in the Preview mode this, however, results in a blank browser screen.
Has this workaround indicated to you what the problem is / was?

In this case probably another program is using this port and it's why you experienced this issue. Did you install any program which uses the port 8080 recently?
